To connect and coordinate national youth leadership for suicide prevention.
Supported by a grant from New Zealand Lottery Board, 2017 provides Te Rau Matatini an exciting opportunity to work with young people across Aotearoa to develop a National Rangatahi Council and Network to promote youth leadership, and voice to build resilience against rangatahi self-harm and suicide in New Zealand.
Māori is a youthful population compared to non-Māori population in this country. Rangatahi Māori death by suicide is much higher than their non-Māori peers. While there are programmes in our communities, they are often isolated and disconnected from to each other.
The aim of this programme is to have a strong local, regional, and national youth voice for the solutions and strategies needed to build resilience among rangatahi, parents, and their whānau to prevent suicide and respond appropriately.
Contact person for this programme is Tio Sewell Waka Hourua Programme Manager.
