New Chief Executive Announcement

Message from Te Puea Winiata Te Rau Matatini Board Chair – 9 May 2017 Auckland New Zealand

It is with great pleasure that I announce on behalf of the Board and Trust of Te Rau Matatini our new Chief Executive, Maria Baker (Ngāpuhi nui tonu, Te Rarawa).  She will assume the role today.

Maria is a proven leader who until today served as an influential part of the Senior Management Team managing  the Workforce Innovation and Waka Hourua Suicide Prevention Programmes Maria is also registered nurse of 20 years, and brings national and rohe expertise from Māori mental health leadership, primary mental health service / practice development and Māori health professional development, localised suicide prevention, intervention and postvention programme.

She has strong technical skills, wide sector and business insights and manages a range of strategic and operational relationships across Māori Health workforce development and the health sector. Maria has a remarkable ability to see what’s going on in the sector, to sense opportunity, and to really understand how we come together to execute against those opportunities in a collaborative way.

She is not alone, though. Our Senior Leadership Team has never been stronger, and together this group will drive us forward.  We remain focused to work towards achieving Pae Ora for whānau. I am excited about what we will and can do at Te Rau Matatini. Maria’s appointment confirms that.

L-R Te Puea Winiata Te Rau Matatini Board Chair, Maria Baker Te Rau Matatini Chief Executive, Lady Arohia Durie, Sir Mason Durie.
