Pacific Trust Canterbury

Pacific Trust Canterbury seeks to hold fono with Pasifika youth at designated secondary schools, churches and sports groups in Christchurch. The purpose of the fono is to gather youth led ideas, views, thoughts and hopes to inform the development and delivery of a youth focused response to suicide prevention.

Twelve secondary schools, twelve churches, rugby league, rugby and netball clubs will be identified and contacted in the Canterbury region and fono will be held. The fono was facilitated by Pacific Canterbury Trust staff and at each fono young people will be given specific task-focused responsibilities. The fono environment was ‘light and fun’, building engagement and encouraged participation. Twelve youth group leaders  participated in the fono delivery.

Information gathered at the completion of fono informed the development, design and delivery of a Pasifika youth focussed community response to suicide prevention - a Pasifika Youth Suicide Prevention Programme for Canterbury.
